In what comes a good news to the cricket fans in Andhra Pradesh, the state’s second international cricket stadium, being built at Mangalagiri, would soon be in readiness to host domestic and international cricket matches.
As per an official update, “The works on the international cricket stadium in Andhra Pradesh’s new capital are being carried out on war-footing. Located near Mangalagiri, the new stadium is being built at a whopping cost of Rs 120 crore. With the civil works at the stadium being completed already, it will be hosting state-level matches from December this year and is likely to host international matches from 2020.”
The new stadium is expected to facilitate the state government’s efforts in making Andhra Pradesh a sporting hub. Recently, while speaking at the foundation stone ceremony of the Amaravati International Sports Complex, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu
said that the central government should bid for hosting Olympics. He further added that Amaravati would be developed into a sporting hub and would soon be capable of hosting Olympics.Andhra Pradesh currently has an international stadium in the city of Visakhapatnam. Named as Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, this stadium holds a capacity to accommodate close to 50,000 spectators and has played host to quite a few eventful matches in the history of Indian cricket.
