Nine months after the nationwide inoculation drive started on 16 January, 2021, over 62 percent of people in Vizag have been vaccinated with the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Incidentally, on Thursday, India has crossed the 1 billion Covid-19 vaccine dose milestone. In addition to this, Andhra Pradesh has reached 50 percent second dose coverage, for administering the Covid-19 vaccine.
Andhra Medical College (AMC) Principal and Visakhapatnam District Covid Officer, P Sudhakar, informed Yo! Vizag, the district had 45 lakh population over the 18 plus age group. The district has administered the first dose for almost 100 percent of the health care and frontline workers. In the 18 – 45 age group, 70 percent of the population have received the first dose. On a whole, of the identified population in Vizag, 28 lakh people have been administered with the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Andhra Pradesh has so far administered over 4.8 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses. This includes about 1.75 crore second dose recipients. 88 percent first dose coverage, and 50 percent second dose coverage. As per the sector-wise Covid-19 vaccine administration development, among the healthcare and frontline workers, first dose coverage is more than 99 percent. Of the 1.33 crore people identified as part of the 45 plus age group, 100 percent of them have received the first dose.
AP Covid-19 Cases Update
As per the Arogya Andhra report on 20 October, 2021, Andhra Pradesh reported 523 positive cases in the last 24 hours. Within this, Chittoor District reported the highest number of cases with 87 new cases, followed by Guntur with 78, West Godavari with 66, Krishna with 61, and East Godavari with 54 new cases in the past 24 hours. Visakhapatnam stood sixth in the State recording 43 new Covid-19 positive cases.
