Kickass Torrents (commonly abbreviated KAT) is a website that provided a directory for torrent files and magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing using the BitTorrent protocol. It was founded in 2008 and went offline on 20 July 2016, when the domain was seized by the United States government. The site’s proxy servers were shut down by its staff at the same time.
Kickass Torrents was recently shut down after its founder; Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland. As a result, many fake websites rose to fame but were nothing when compared to Kickass Torrents. They were a mere copy of the Kickass website with un-updated data with un-managed working. But it seems that soon the website will be in working condition as before as it is reported to be. A TorrentFreak report says that, ‘Kickass Torrents original staffers have bought the de-functioning website back to life under a new domain name with all its old content and former glory’.
Even though the website is under construction right now, a message is displayed which says that, ‘Servers Load have been affected, there are other few sources of this issue, it’s not just one. We are working on fix this as soon as possible. One thing is for sure, we are not going anywhere, even as much these behind this acts want us to. Cowards always choose the shadows to commit their acts, and I do personally hope they know how to pray, they will need it.’
With a special request from team members of the Kickass community, the website has also hilariously pinned a Youtube link to Rick Astley’s famous song ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ which goes like ‘never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you’, which clearly depicts a message from the team that Kickass Torrents will never give up on its users and is here to stay.
The KATcr crew quoted, “We have all our major up loaders on board and they continued to share tirelessly even before the torrent engines returned. The torrent community can continue to expect to see uploads from all the names they know and trust.” They added, “The majority of our original Staff, Admins and Moderation team joined us after Kat.cr went down – which is something we’re very proud of. This shows the loyalty, dedication and real love for KAT that we all share.” The staffers from the website have also stated that their website has a proper DMCA takedown procedure, just like other websites like Youtube and that they do not store any copyrighted material to their own server.
