Greater Visakha Economic Region on the anvil

The State government is working on a plan to create a Greater Visakha Economic Region comprising the four districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vizag and Anakapalle for an all-round development of the region, according to HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, in the latest news.

Addressing the media in Visakhapatnam on 12 October, Lokesh said that agreements were made with several major companies for the establishment of their centres in Visakhapatnam.

Of the total investments proposed in the State, 50 per cent would be in Visakhapatnam, said the IT Minister.

“We will ensure grounding of all the projects for which agreements have been made and generation of five lakh jobs in Visakhapatnam as promised,” He said.

Earlier, the Minister had a meeting with officials of the four districts and discussed the Visakha economic zone plan.

He directed the officials to work with dedication to steer the region on the path of progress.

Later, Lokesh, along with ICC chairman Jay Shah, formally inaugurated a gallery and a stand at the ACA-VDCA stadium, which have been named after women cricketers
Mithali Raj and Raavi Kalpana, respectively. The IT Minister also watched the match between India and Australia being played at the stadium as part of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Championship.
