Death of 5 as a chartered plane crashes in Mumbai streets

In the latest chartered plane crash at an open area in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area on Thursday afternoon, five people were killed and two were found injured.

Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said, “Two pilots, two Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME), one person on the ground were found dead.”

Captain PS Rajput, Co-pilot Maria Zuberi, Assistant Maintenance Engineer Surbhi and air technician Manish Panday are the ones identified on board during the plane crash. The information of the pedestrian who was killed in the crash has not been revealed.

DGCA team is on its way to conduct a preliminary investigation into the accident and detailed Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau would be conducting a detailed probe into the crash.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has directed the concerned officials to the crash site and provide necessary help.

VT-UPZ, KING AIR C90 has been identified as the aircraft and belongs to UY Aviation company, based in Mumbai.

The incident took place at Old Malik Estate near telephone exchange on Jeev Saya lane in Ghatkopar, Mumbai.

On Twitter, former Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel tweeted, ” Saddened to hear about the unfortunate incident at #ghatkopar as Charter plane crashes in an open area. Salute to the pilot who showed presence of mind to avoid a big mishap, saving many lives at the cost of her own life. #RIP to all the 5 Dead. My deepest condolences.”
