Assembly Rowdy, starring Mohan Babu and Dhivya Bharathi in lead roles, celebrates its silver jubilee on Saturday. The now-25 year-old Block buster was released on 4th June, 1991 and gave Mohan Babu an enormous kick start to his solo career. This politics-themed movie, no doubt, had set a trend and broke the box-office records of that time. Mohan Babu’s versatile acting and Paruchuri Gopalakrishna’s quirky dialogues were a major add-on s to the film.
The film is a remake of the 1990 Tamil film ‘Velai Kidaichiduchu’. Made in 41 days, Assembly Rowdy ran successfully for 25 weeks and was remade in Hindi as ‘Loafer’ starring Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. Quirky dialogues such as ‘Aristhe charustha..charisthe karustha..karisthe ninnu kooda bokkalo vestha. #AssemblyRowdy’ gained a lot of popularity in the audience back then.

Even today, the film is one of the trend setters in Tollywood and is relevant to the present society as it portrayed cash-for-vote scandals and exposed political corruption. Among all his 500 featured films and 181 as a lead protagonist, Mohan Babu says Assembly Rowdy is very close to his heart and holds a special place in his entire career.
