Visakhapatnam saw a string of three separate accidents on 11 August 2025. At the Dwaraka Bus Station in the city, a bus lost control and rammed into a passenger platform, killing one woman and injuring another person. The deceased, identified as G Mutyalamma from Pothanapalli in Vizianagaram district, had come to the city to attend a function at her daughter’s home in Gajuwaka. She was waiting for a bus to return to her village when the Palasa–Visakhapatnam bus, reportedly due to brake failure, veered onto the platform and struck the passengers.
RTC officials rushed to the spot to assess the situation, while police confirmed brake failure as the suspected cause. The injured person was taken to a hospital and is receiving treatment. The sudden accident triggered panic among commuters at the bus station. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a separate fatality was reported on the railway line near Elamanchili. According to Tuni Railway Sub-Inspector G Srinivasa Rao, a 45-year-old man traveling from Rajahmundry to Visakhapatnam fell from the train near the Elamanchili station yard. He was rushed to Anakapalle NTR Hospital in a 108 ambulance but died during treatment.
Authorities have yet to identify the victim, describing him as wearing a blue and black checkered shirt with cement-colored jeans, a love symbol tattoo on the right side of his chest, and the name “Rohan” tattooed in the center. Anyone with information is urged to contact 94906 19020.
One of the other accidents on the same day occurred in Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Visakhapatnam, when a 26-year-old contract worker lost his life at SMS-TPBAY in. The victim, Suresh Singh, died when a cable was cut and fell on him. Trade union leaders blamed the tragedy on excessive workload as the management pushes for 100% production, coupled with inadequate maintenance and insufficient safety measures.
