Andhra Pradesh reports 24 new coronavirus cases, count goes up to 111

The number of novel coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh continues to rise. On Wednesday night, the state reported 24 new coronavirus cases, taking the count to 111.

As per a media bulletin released by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department of Andhra Pradesh, the new coronavirus cases came in addition to the 43 cases that were reported earlier in the day.  It is the sharpest spike that the state has seen yet. Out of the 111 coronaviruses positive cases, the majority of them attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation held in Delhi.

As per Visakhapatnam District Collector, V. Vinay Chand, 91 individuals are at the isolation centres while 170 individuals are kept at the quarantine centres in the district. Out of the 215 admitted, 124 were discharged.

Chief Secretary (CS) of Andhra Pradesh, Nilam Sawhney (IAS) addressed the District Collectors, in a video conference on Wednesday and instructed the officials that people with travel history abroad should be kept in isolation. The attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat congregation need to be kept in quarantine, even if they don’t have COVID-19, she directed the officials.
