Recognising Visakhapatnam’s urgent need for green lungs amid fast-paced development and rising pollution, the VMRDA is championing park projects. These efforts to build new parks and revitalise old ones are aimed at softening urbanisation’s blow and improving the city’s air quality index.
“Green spaces are essential for the sustainable growth of Visakhapatnam, and the VMRDA is committed to developing parks with modern amenities for the benefit of citizens,” said VMRDA Chairperson M V Pranav Gopal.
Developed on an area of 55 acres, the VMRDA park, among others, with lawns and a variety of flower plants, offers a pleasant ambience for visitors.
Consisting of around 2,500 shade-giving trees, the park is one of the best spots for the residents of Visakhapatnam to unwind in the evenings after a busy day.
With eco-friendly surroundings, kids’ play zones, boating, musical fountains, a gym, a yoga centre, and more, it is among the city’s most attractive parks.
Offering facilities like a gym, a cycling track, and a yoga centre, Health Arena, being maintained by the VMRDA, is the first of its kind in the State.
Developed over 20 acres, it has a jogging track stretching over 2 km.
“Upgrading parks and health-focused facilities is part of our effort to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle among residents,” said VMRDA Commissioner N Tej Bharat.
Serving as the major recreational place for the residents of Visakhapatnam, the Central Park is located in the heart of the city.
Inaugurated in 2016 by the then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the park has the first musical fountain in the State.
The fountain, which was non-functional for some time, was restored in May last year with redesigned equipment. “The restoration was taken up to ensure that visitors continue to enjoy quality recreational facilities in the heart of the city,” the VMRDA Commissioner said.
In addition, the VMRDA maintains a number of parks within its limits to provide green space and offer residents a pleasant environment to relax in the evenings.
