Two trackers and one explosive specialist retire from the dog squad in Visakhapatnam

Three dogs of the dog squad in Visakhapatnam retired from their 12 years of service to the city earlier this month. The dogs, who have been a part of many cases, have solved murders and thefts across the city. Thanking them for their unconditional service to the people of Visakhapatnam, the City Police Department held a send-off ceremony for these specialists.

Dog Rana, a labrador who is 12 years and 8 months old was a tracking specialist. He played a crucial part in solving a rape and murder case in 2015. The culprit of the rape case was tracked down with the help of a chunni wrapped around the woman. Rana who sniffed the chunni led the cops to a house located at a distance of 2km from the crime site. The people found in the house confessed to the crime and Rana was appreciated by the then DSP of Bobbili. He was also successful in locating a body by smelling the person’s towel and sandals back in the day near Srikakulam Rural.

Dog Vani a labrador along with handler B.A.S.P. Naidu has been successful in solving a murder case in 2013 and a theft case in 2014. At the age of 12 years and 1 month, she is finally retiring from her service of providing security to this city. Vani was a part of an investigation of a murder case near the Vizag Airport back in 2013. She successfully located the murderer by sniffing a rock at the crime scene. In a theft case in 2014 under the III Town Police Station limits, Vani played a crucial role in identifying the accused caught by the police. With the help of boxes and towels found at the place of theft she simply confirmed the identification of the accused the police had previously caught.

Dog Balu an explosives specialist retired at the age of 12 years and 2 months. Along with the dog handler, K. Vallabha Rao, the labrador has been a part of many HPCL and airport mock drills. The dog has also been reported to have performed well at VVIP and threat call duties.

Their splendid job was appreciated by the police department and the Dog Squad. They have been a part of the security service to Visakhapatnam for 12 long years and have caught many culprits in their term. The dogs were let off with great honour for their valour from the dog squad in Visakhapatnam.
