The East Coast Railway has deployed 45-50 special squads to ensure a safe Diwali for the passengers. The squads will keep a strict vigil at the railway stations to keep check on the transport of crackers and other inflammable materials.
Reportedly, the special squads have been appointed at Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Rayagada and Bobbili railway stations. The Waltair division has advised passengers not to carry firecrackers with them and discourage their fellow passengers from carrying them too. Personnel are posted at the entrance and exit points of the stations to check passenger baggage.
Five mobile squads will check the trains while seven civilian defence staff are posted at Duvvada, Raygada, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam stations.
A few cases have already been booked under Section 164 of the Railways Act, 1989 on passengers from Vizianagaram and Cheepurupalli railway stations.
