The parking problems in Visakhapatnam are on the rise and the Vizag Urban development Authority seeks to remedy the situation by coming up with multi-storey parking zones in the city. This decision was taken at a recent general body meeting . 11 lakh vehicles with 5.5 lakh two wheelers, 5 lakh four wheelers and 58,000 autos that ply in the city are making parking log-jams. The number of free and paid parking zones are not enough and the issue required speedy redress.
VUDA has already invited ‘ expression of interest’ from contractors for going ahead with the construction and 10 companies have already expressed interest. Applications are being sorted and a candidate will be allotted shortly. The question of whether to use hydraulic machinery or the ramp for the parking zone is yet to be decided.
Parking zone – The three places shortlisted for the multi-storey parking zones are the vacant places near central park, Dwarka Nagar RTC bus complax, R.K Beach and the vacant lot in front of VUDA building in Siripuram. It is possible that these parking zones will be made free of cost since it is a part of the creation of Vizag Smart City.
Peoples response to the idea and the expression of interest is encouraging the VUDA officials to forge ahead with the proposal. It comes at a very opportune moment when the cities are getting busier and the traffic out of hand in many places. Parking solutions and multi-storey parking zones are sure to take the parking piles off the road to a large extent and clear traffic.
