
Accompanied by a strong gale, heavy rains lashed Visakhapatnam on 2 October, uprooting trees and twisting electric poles. Huge trees fell near the GVMC office, Marripalem Vuda Layout and several other locations. A tree fell near the All India Radio. A wall of a house collapsed when a tree fell on a car parked on the Kalinga Nagar main road. Rainwater was overflowing on roads in some areas. Power supply was disrupted in many parts, and it was not restored till the evening.
Meanwhile, according to the weather office, the depression in the Bay of Bengal is likely to move north-northwestwards and strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm. It is likely to cross the coast between South Odisha and North Andhra near Gopalpur and Paradip ports on Friday. Under its influence, rain is likely in North Andhra districts as well as the south coast, along with heavy rains in Vizag.
When contacted, electricity AE Venkatewara Rao, who has been supervising the restoration work in the Marripalem Vuda Layout area, said that efforts were being made to restore power supply by night.
