Freedom fighter and Vizianagaram’s first Lok Sabha member dies at 98

Freedom fighter and the Vizianagaram’s first member of Lok Sabha, Kandala Subrahmanyam Tilak, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018.

Born on July 15, 1920, 98 years old, Kandala Subrahmanyam Tilak, took part in India’s freedom struggle, including Salt Satyagraha. He also took part in the Quit India Movement on August 9, 1942, as a student leader and went to prison.

Tilak was elected as Vizianagaram’s first member of the first Lok Sabha in 1952.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, expressed his grief over Tilak’s death.

Tilak’s service to the nation will always be remembered, the Chief Minister said.

The government will pay homage with state honors and his mortal remains will be donated to Gayatri Medical College.
