In a proud moment for the City of Destiny, Vizag girl Greeshma Dontara has bagged a gold medal at the Asian Roller-Skating Championship in China. The 14-year-old competed in Artistic In-Line Skating, the youth category, and stood top in the prestigious event. Following this success, Greeshma is set to participate in two additional events- freestyle and pair artistic roller skating- at the Asian Roller-Skating Championship.
Sharing the good news with Yo! Vizag, Greeshma’s father, D Chandra Sekhar, expressed immense joy at his daughter’s gold medal victory. The jubilant father voiced an eager anticipation of her participation in the two remaining events. “Despite facing strong competition from formidable opponents from China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, Greeshma delivered an outstanding performance that secured her the top position,” shared Chandra Sekhar.
When inquired about her preparation for the event, her father explained that her daily routine began at 4:30 in the morning. She attended athletic classes from 5 AM, followed by regular school, and then proceeded to her evening practice sessions, which extended until 9 PM. Her coach, Satyam, played a crucial role in training her to execute specific elements, including the double axle, a feat that no Indian girl had accomplished before. Greshema’s father expressed that this demonstration of exemplary dedication played a pivotal role in her selection, even ahead of athletes older than her.
After her return from the Asian Roller-Skating Championship in China with the gold medal, the Vizag girl Greeshma Dontara will begin preparations for the state-level competitions scheduled for the first week of November. In a remarkable display of balancing her academic pursuits and unwavering passion for skating, Greeshma is diligently preparing for her upcoming 10th-grade board examinations, all while setting her sights on the Asian Championships in 2026.
