Two students of Kurupam school die of illness, many others getting treatment

Two of over 80 students of the tribal residential school for girls at Kurupam in Parvatipuram district, who were taken ill, died on 5 October night, as per the latest news. The students complained of uneasiness after reaching home for the Dasara vacations. As the condition of many of them turns serious, they were admitted to KGH and other hospitals.

The deceased girls were identified as Anjali Puvvula and T Kalpana. Water contamination is said to be the cause.

According to KGH Superintendent Vani, the students are being treated under the supervision of specialists. With the number of patients going up, Parvathipuram Manyam District Collector N Prabhakar Reddy declared holidays for a week for the school.

Food and water samples from the school have been collected and sent to a regional laboratory for testing.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a probe and sought a detailed report from the officials concerned. He directed Tribal Welfare Minister Sandhyarani to ensure better treatment to the children.

The Minister, who visited KGH, enquired the doctors about the condition of the students. She also talked to the girls who are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, while expressing grief, directed the officials to ensure better treatment for other girls.

The Deputy Chief Minister said he would visit the school to take stock of the situation.
