Steps afoot to control pollution in Vizag, says Harendhira Prasad at Collectors’ meet

District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad has said that stringent measures are being taken to control pollution in Vizag city.

Participating in the first day of the 5th Collectors’ Conference, chaired by the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, in Amaravati on December 17, the Collector spoke on the issues related to the district.

When State officials remarked that statistics indicate an increase in pollution in Visakhapatnam, the District Collector explained the measures being taken to control pollution.

“We are effectively implementing environmental policies, laws, and regulations. We are identifying the sources of pollution and proceeding with appropriate action plans,” said the Collector, adding that planned measures would be taken to reduce the severity of pollution in Vizag city.

The Collector opined that priority should be given to district selection committees in the recruitment process of outsourced doctors in the Medical and Health Department.

Permission should be granted to conduct selections at the district level. He stated that this would help avoid delays in the selection process. Similarly, the Collector of Visakhapatnam, along with the Collectors of other districts, brought to the Chief Minister’s notice the problem of complexities arising in obtaining permissions from the Forest Department while undertaking development projects.
