Police In Vizag Destroy Rs 5 Crore Worth of Seized Narcotics

The Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta concluded the connection with ganja cultivation on Sunday. He assured that strict action will be taken against the smugglers and those involved in the use and supply of cannabis and other narcotics in Andhra Pradesh. The state police are committed to destroying the use of illicit substances.

The Vizag police have destroyed narcotics worth Rs 5.21 crore in the city at the Jindal Urban Waste Management Ltd dumping yard near Kapuluppada.

The destroyed narcotics contain about 10,148 kg of cannabis, one kilogram of opium, and 19.3 litres of hash oil. The seized substances were linked to approximately 533 cases and were destroyed in accordance with court orders. The police have seized 39 cars, 16 auto-rickshaws, 2 lorries, and 96 two-wheelers, used for transporting the illicit substances.

In the 533 cases, there are 1,435 accused, out of which 712 are from Visakhapatnam district, 332 are from other districts, and 391 are from different states.

The DGP commented on the situation and stated that the cultivation of cannabis in Andhra Pradesh has been reduced to zero. While production in the state has taken a hit, smugglers are reportedly transporting ganja from neighbouring states.

The people were advised to call the toll-free number 1972 to contact the authorities regarding the storage or transportation of ganga and other narcotics. The contacted person’s details will be kept confidential by the police.
