New year celebrations banned in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner, Manish Kumar Sinha IPS, has announced certain restrictions for New Year Eve celebrations in the city. There will be no public celebrations anywhere in the city. In relation to this, there will be no public gatherings allowed. Additionally, the entire coastline stretch from Yarada to Bheemli, including R.K. Beach Road, will be closed from 6 pm onwards on 31 December 2021.

This is the second consecutive year that such restrictions have been put in place. The steps have been taken keeping in mind the looming risk of COVID-19. Road restrictions also ensure that there is a lesser risk of speeding, or drunk, motorists. There will be no New Year celebrations carried out on Beach Road, Vizag. The flyover and major roads, where there are chances of having overspeeding motorists, will be closed. Accidents can be definitely be avoided. Vizag police will also not be giving permission to hold any DJ parties. And other activities such as the bursting of firecrackers on public roads, cake cuttings, and any huge crowd gatherings, are strictly prohibited.

The New Year celebrations have been banned in Visakhapatnam view of the rising COVID-19 cases and also to ensure the safety of the public. There is going to be a strict vigilance on bike racing, drunken driving, and no mask. The citizens are requested to have safe New Year celebrations indoors with the family. No public gatherings or celebrations are permitted. In wake of the rise in Omicron cases, people must limit their New Year plans and stay indoors.
