Akkineni Naga Chaitanya to play ANR in Mahanati

As per the latest reports, actor Naga Chaitanya Akkineni will be playing the character of his late grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) in the much-awaited biopic of yesteryear actress Savitri, ‘Mahanati’.

The film, which is said to be a tribute to one of Telugu’s most famous actresses, will also have the characters of N.T Rama Rao, S.V Ranga Rao, and Gemini Ganesan among others. While veteran actor Manchu Mohan Babu will be donning the role of S.V Ranga Rao, Prakash Raj will be seen playing the role of Chakrapani. However, uncertainty still continues to exist on who will play the role of N.T Rama Rao.

‘Mahanati’ is being produced under the banner of Vyjayanthi movies and is being directed by Nag Ashwin of ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ fame. The Telugu-Tamil bilingual film boasts of a heavy star cast with Keerthy Suresh playing the titular role and Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan playing Gemini Ganesan, who was married to Savitri. Samantha Akkineni will also be playing a crucial role in the film. Bringing an end to a long wait, Naga Chaitanya, who has finally given a nod to play ANR in the film, will soon be joining the movie’s unit.

The film is expected to hit the screens this summer.
