INS Viraat is Indian Navy’s oldest war machine. The Indian Navy Aircraft carrier has been decommisioned and is all set to become a floating attraction on the Vizag coastline. The AP government plans have gained momentum and Chennai based Nautex Maritime Pvt.Ltd. is roped in. It is currently preparing the detailed report with cost estimates for the plans. Converting the Navy ship into a dedicated floating museum is on the cards. The project is be undertaken in the Public Private Partnership mode.
The Berth: As per the Collector Pravin Kumar, the Indian Navy Arcraft Carrier INS Viraat will be berthed between Rushikonda and Bheemli on the Vizag coast. the rumours of a location on East Godavari have been dismissed. Till dedicated preparation of location is done it will be anchored at Kakinada in the interim. The estimated cost of the project is yet to be disclosed. It is pending the detailed report by the team working on it. AP Tourism Authority has grand plans for the Indian Navy Aircraft Carrier.
- 120 room 4-star hotel on board.
- Fresh water supply and toilet in each room.
- Convention center in the aircraft hangar space.
- Restaurants at appropriate spaces.
- Retail and commercial spaces.
Along with other projects on the cards for Vizag, AP Tourism is in line for getting funds from the Union Ministry. The various projects are:
- Viraat project.
- Buddhist Circuit developement.
- Passenger jetty at Bheemli.
The Union Government has given approval for the projects. Some major tourist attractions are coming to Vizag soon. The Indian navy aircraft carrier INS Viraat is a mighty and mean machine. It’s years of service have left a modern touch touch with old world charm. It is expected to be a crowd puller.
