
Visakhapatnam, the most happening city in Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation, saw a significant development project in the year 2025, which is likely to change the face of the city. Known for its beauty and vast resources, the city hosted a slew of national and international events in the year and was successful in attracting investments from top companies. Touted to be the financial capital of Andhra Pradesh, the city has drawn the attention of the global giants in different sectors like IT and tourism, who have shown interest in investing in the region.
Of the major events held in the city, the CII partnership summit tops the list, hogging the limelight. Organised on November 14 and 15, the conference saw participation of delegates from different parts of the world. A record number of MoUs were signed at the summit, attracting investments worth Rs 11 lakh crore and promising job generation on a large scale.
Creating a record, a massive yoga session was held on Beach Road with the participation of over three lakh yoga enthusiasts. Organised by the Andhra Pradesh government on 21 June, the huge feat entered the Guinness Book of World Records. Participated in by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Yogandhra was a significant achievement for Visakhapatnam.
Offering a platform for SMEs to explore trade and showcase capabilities, an SME expo was organised in Visakhapatnam on November 28-30. Hosted by Vizag, it was held with an aim to connect Indian SMEs with global partners.
In the year 2025, Vizag saw a rapid growth in the IT sector with major companies eying the city for their operations. In a major boost to the district’s IT growth, Google has announced plans to establish an AI-powered data centre in Visakhapatnam. Said to be the first centre outside the USA, the foundation stone was laid for it in October, signalling the emergence of Vizag as an IT hub.
Similarly, Sify is coming up with a major data centre and an open cable landing station near Paradesipalem in Visakhapatnam. Other IT giants like TCS, Cognizant, Infosys, Accenture and HCL are all set to start their full-fledged operations from the City of Destiny.
State IT Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for several companies at Kapuluppada. They include Cognizant, Sattva, Tech Tammina, Nonrel Technologies Private Limited, ACN HealthCare RCM Services Pvt Ltd, Imaginnovate Techsolutions (India) Pvt Ltd, Fluentgrid Limited, Motherson Technology Services Limited, and Quarks Technosoft Private Limited.
Giving a push to tourism in Visakhapatnam, the country’s largest glass bridge was opened in the city this year. Built for Rs 7 crore by the VMRDA atop Kailasagiri, the ‘sky walk’ was opened to the public on 1 December. Using the material imported from Germany, the 50-metre-long bridge was built at a height of 1020 feet above sea level.
With numerous achievements and development to its credit, 2025 has been a remarkable year for Visakhapatnam, witnessing rapid growth and global attention.
