In a nation with over a billion people, it is needless to say we own millions of vehicles. But luckily, Vizag isn’t as crowded as other Metro cities. Being a developing city with not so divulging employment opportunity output, it has managed to keep the over-crowding factor for some other day. Nevertheless, there are more vehicles being sold these days, for it became a necessity over merely being a luxury. This has hence contributed to a rise in traffic over the past decade and it’s very much visible. Also, the city being a hub for education & attracting students from all over the country has left an impact in an indirect manner.
On a regular day you will find it hard to commute in city between 7 & 11 AM and 5 & 10 PM; a period when people travel to office, college, school etc. Though this isn’t a major concern, the issue gets highlighted in commercial areas. It is these places people opt to come for personal or professional needs. And since most of them are accompanied by their vehicles, it is obvious to find them parked in inappropriate places.
Considerable, when these vehicles are parked over courses and lanes, there is an explicit slow flow of traffic. This in turn would stagnate the movement. As a result, vehicles are forced to stall for a long time, causing inconvenience to many around. One certainly loses fun in exploring places under such conditions.
But we have a solution, though we aren’t sure on who would implement it and how.
DEDICATED PARKING LOTS!!
Now this sounds familiar except for the first word – Dedicated. So let’s have brief about it.
A dedicated parking lot is a facility or a building built for enabling everyone to station their vehicles; unlike regular shopping complexes that only permit vehicles which come to their stores.
An average sized building with 5 floors from ground and 3 floors underground (total 8) would easily support upto 300 cars and 500 motorcycles. The construction doesn’t need to be complex with automatic lifting beds and all. A conventional floor to floor parking would just do the job under much lesser maintenance.
The advantages being, if only one such building is constructed near commercial centers, most would prefer parking there over risking keeping their vehicles on road. Also, the absence of parked vehicles on main roads would allow for a swift flow of traffic. With such dedicated parking lots to access, the traffic police can charge people if found parking in a no-parking zone for having no other excuse.
There are many busy commercial places in Vizag. Jagadamba Center, Poorna Market, NAD junction, Gajuwaka, Seetammadhara, Dwarakanagar are few among many which always look packed with traffic. Construction of such buildings would allow people in having easy access to local places without worrying about their vehicles and traffic police.
A proper planning must be implemented before choosing a place to raise these things. For instance, these buildings can be constructed anywhere but that would not serve their purpose properly. They must be set in areas that are very close to commercial outlets to encourage people into using them.
Since the benefit is not individual focused and rather a public oriented, the Government should hence lug the costs incurred towards. Though these Lots would garner less fee (per vehicle) for using them, the overall revenue would still be high and hence a major factor to construct these.
You might feel this unnecessary under current circumstances. But keeping the nearest future in mind, this objective needs to be mandated for a better tomorrow.
