Visakhapatnam youths held hostage by cyber scam gang in Thailand
Seven unemployed youths from Visakhapatnam are reportedly being held captive by cybercrime gangs in Thailand. The victims were lured with fake job offers and later forced into online scams under extreme duress.
They were deceived with promises of data entry, hospitality, and reception jobs. In May 2025, three youths initially left for Thailand and, after a seemingly smooth start, informed their friends, who followed them shortly after. However, it soon became clear that the job offers were a front for organized cybercrime operations.
A video sent by the victims has surfaced, exposing the brutal conditions they are enduring. In the video, the youths plead for rescue and recount their horrifying ordeal:
“After a week, our passports were taken and handed to others. We were blindfolded and transported in around twenty vehicles through dense jungle for 36 hours. Some were beaten en route. We were forced to impersonate women online and commit cyber fraud. If we refused, we were beaten with iron rods and tortured. Even if we couldn’t speak English properly, they wouldn’t listen. They’d just beat us. They initially made us work 16 hours, now it’s 20. Even when we are sick, they don’t care. They’re threatening to transfer us to a different location soon. Please save us.”
The disturbing footage was shared with family members, who promptly brought the matter to the attention of Visakhapatnam West MLA Ganababu on 30 July 2025.
Efforts are now reportedly underway to trace and rescue the victims, as the issue gains attention from authorities.
