AP Govt. on high alert as cyclonic storm threat looms over State

The Andhra Pradesh government is on high alert as a cyclonic storm is brewing in the Bay of Bengal. According to the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, heavy to extremely heavy rains are likely in the next four days in many parts of Andhra Pradesh, including Visakhapatnam.

Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea, a low-pressure area formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on 24 October. It is likely to move west-northwestwards, intensify into a depression over the Southeast and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal by 25 October and further into a deep depression by 26 October. Later, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm.

In the wake of the cyclonic storm threat, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha had a meeting with the officials of the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) on the precautionary measures to be taken.

The Home Minister said NDRF and SDRF teams should be kept ready, and the staff at ground level should be available round the clock.

She ordered for setting up of control rooms in all districts.
