The Andhra Cricket Association has announced that two stands in the ACA-VDCA stadium in Vizag will be inaugurated for two legendary Indian women cricketers, Mithali Raj and Ravvi Kalpana, on October 12, ahead of the India-Australia Women’s Cricket World Cup match. This will be the first-of-its-kind tribute to women cricketers in the stadium.
This decision follows star batter Smriti Mandhana’s request to dedicate two stands at the Vizag cricket stadium during the “Breaking Boundaries” fireside chat with Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh in August 2025. She stated that the cricket stadiums, including those in Vizag, have no cricket stands featuring leading Indian women cricketers. The cricketer emphasised that mentioning women cricketers will throw light on their contributions and inspire future generations to enter the sport as a profession.
Minister Nara Lokesh discussed with the Andhra Cricket Association, leading to a conclusion to honour women’s cricket icons by naming stands after Mithali Raj and Ravi Kalpana at the ACA-VDCA stadium in Vizag. He also stated that implementing Smriti Mandhana’s suggestion will reflect the collective commitment to gender parity and acknowledge the superstars of women’s cricket.
Mithali Raj is a former Indian women’s cricket captain from 2004 to 2022, and one of the most accomplished batters, ranking the highest run-scorer in Women’s International Cricket.
Ravi Kalpana is an Andhra-born wicketkeeper-batter who rose through the ranks from the State system to India and is a significant pillar in showcasing local talent, thereby strengthening the pathway for girls in cricket.
