
During the Annual Crime Mela, Police Commissioner Shankar Bhagchi announced that Vizag saw a decline in fraud and crimes in November compared to previous months. He noted that property fraud cases dropped from 85 in October to 70 in November, of which 53 were solved.
He praised the efforts of the Visakhapatnam police, noting that they effectively used advanced technical tools and conducted the investigation with a broad approach, examining all possible angles. This intelligence of the police led them to solve the 53 cases of property fraud, where they recovered property worth Rs 26,67,550, along with 502 stolen phones whose value stood at Rs 75.30 lakhs, five motorcycles, seven cases of cattle theft, over 350 grams of gold ornaments, and over 2,100 grams of silver ornaments. The total valuation of the stolen items and property came to Rs 1.01 crore. The police also arrested 65 accused involved in the 53 cases. The culprits taken in custody were involved in thefts, snatching, night robbery and house breaking.
Police Commissioner Bagchi also stated that 213 CCTV cameras are installed, and special patrolling teams are deployed in crime-prone areas. Crime wing officers spread awareness and explained the modus operandi to people during crime awareness meetings. In addition to day and night patrolling, drone surveillance has been launched in secluded areas as a preventive measure against crimes and illegal activities.
