Influence public for a positive change, CP urges social media

City Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi has called upon social media influencers in Vizag to play a positive role in shaping the city into a model one in the country.

Addressing a collaboration meeting held with social media influencers in the city on March 31, the CP advised them to focus mainly on the issues that bring change in society.

The Vizag CP opined that if the police department and social media influencers work together, they can bring about significant positive change in society.

Sharing the key issues to be focused on, with the gathering, he said: “Students in despair are resorting to extreme steps when they secure low marks or fail in examinations. It is our collective responsibility to change this situation.”

He urged the influencers to convey through their content that academic ranks are not the sole criterion for success in life. Rather, with determination and hard work, one can scale the highest peaks of achievement.

Many individuals suffer severe financial losses and undergoing mental distress due to involvement in IPL betting and online gambling. Furthermore, some are even being driven to a path of crime. People should be made to shun such activities, the CP said.

Drugs pose a grave threat to our society. It is imperative to raise public awareness regarding the adverse physical and psychological consequences associated with them, he said and sought the cooperation of influencers in making Visakhapatnam a drug-free city.

Online frauds, particularly crimes involving blackmail through photos or videos, was the other area to be focused, the CP said and advised the influencers to encourage victims to contact the police without any fear.

“The installation of speed laser guns across the city has led to a decline in road accidents. Awareness campaigns must be conducted regarding issues such as the mandatory use of helmets and the prohibition of mobile phone usage while driving.”

Social media should also focus on the incentive of Rs 25,000 being provided to individuals who assist victims of road accidents, emphasising the critical need for immediate aid to those affected.

“You are requested to create videos, posts, and messages addressing the discussed issues,” said the CP.
