Traffic diverted at NAD junction for flyover construction

The progress on NAD flyover, in Visakhapatnam, was being made swiftly, as informed by VUDA Vice-Chairman, P. Basanth Kumar earlier. As the latest development, the traffic flowing through the prime junction in the city is being diverted to facilitate hassle-free traffic in the city, as informed by ADCP (Traffic) M Ramesh Kumar.

The newly introduced traffic diversions are expected to last upto two years until the NAD flyover reaches its final stages of completion. Here are the alternate routes to be taken for those thravelling through the NAD junction.

  • Those travelling to and fro Visakhapatnam airport and Gajuwaka, Anakapalli will have to use the routes through Convent junction, Port Road, and Sheelanagar.
  • The drivers travelling to Gopalapatnam, Pendurthi, Sabbavaram, Kothavalsa, and Araku, will have to opt for the route through Adivivaram, Central Jail road, and Hanumanthavaka junction.
  • The heavy and goods vehicles travelling from Kolkata, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram to Anakapalli, Chennai, Vijayawada, should use the way through Anandapuram via Pendurthi and Sabbavaram.
  • The heavy and goods vehicles travelling from Anakapalli to Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram should divert to Anandapuram via Pendurthi, Sabbavaram.

The project is being handled by M/s. Vijay Nirman Company Private Ltd. Experts from NIT Warangal too will be lending their suggestions to the design.

The NAD flyover had its foundation stone laid by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu earlier.

Once constructed, it is expected to consist of three different layers which would facilitate separate passages for different categories of vehicles. The proposed design also suggests there would be walkways for pedestrians and a recreational park at the centre.

EASING OUT TRAFFIC CONGESTION

The NAD junction is one of the prime centres in Vizag and faces traffic related issues throughout the day. A busy junction, which is a part of NH5, that is well connected to the airport and other prominent locales in the city, this place requires better management of the traffic congestion and the upcoming NAD flyover is deemed to do the same.

The project, which was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 113 crore, is expected to be completed by November 2019.
