The major industries of Vizag, including the Visakhapatnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry have pitched for the establishment of a manufacturing unit in the city by Tesla, an American automotive and energy storage company.
A lot of speculations were made after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tesla Motors in Fremont, CA about the establishment of a manufacturing unit in India but were rubbed off as a rumour. Nitin Gadkar, the transport minister of India cleared the air after he proposed the Senior Tesla executives to make India their Asia manufacturing hub and offered land near the major ports including the Vizag port to facilitate the export of their vehicles to South and South-East countries.
Vizagites always wanted a major car manufacturing unit in the city to make it an industrial and commercial hub. Members of the Visakhapatnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Tesla searches for a factory that will be able to manufacture and deliver the products on time, and Vizag would be a very good place to start.
Green technologies will be used for manufacturing the cars to introduce a pollution free transportation system in India.
