Sports camp to be conducted in Visakhapatnam

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is organising a sports camp at the Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium in which hundreds of students would be participating.

In regards to the sports camp, cultural programmes and a march-past has been conducted at the inaugural session on Monday.

The torch for the inaugural was lit by Human Resource Development Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Ganta Srinivasa Rao. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, “Physical fitness and sports will be made compulsory in schools and government is also contemplating giving weight age of marks for excellence in sports.”

The sports camp in Visakhapatnam is providing an opportunity for the municipal school students to choose between their favourite sports and get trained by professional coaches in 38 events. 48 venues are spread over six zones including Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam.

The students can focus on sports such as rifle-shooting, table tennis, swimming, boxing, hockey, judo, kho-kho, wrestling, football, volleyball among several other events. The camp commences till June 5th.
