Steps afoot to ensure travel from city to Bhogapuram airport in 50 minutes: Collector

A slew of measures are being taken to meet the future needs in the wake fast changing economic scenario in Visakhapatnam, according to District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad.

Speaking to the media in the city on 14 October, the Collector observed that like Hyderabad which developed rapidly after the establishment of Microsoft, Visakhapatnam too will see such progress as Google was all set to set up Asia’s largest data centre. It would change the face of the region, he added. “The data centre is being set up with an investment of Rs. 85,000 crore, and it will generate a large number of jobs for the youth in the region.

“Keeping in mind the future changes and needs of Visakhapatnam, we are developing infrastructure on a big scale. As a part of it, we are laying 15 master plan roads and tender process for seven of them has been completed. Work will begin in three to four days,” said the Collector adding that steps were being taken to complete the master plan roads by April-May 2026.

Efforts were on ensure travel from the city to the upcoming Bhogapuram airport in 50 minutes, said the Collector.

Stating that State IT Minister Lokesh focused on the proposed Greater Visakha Economic Zone during his recent visit to the city and made suggestions to officials on shaping it up.

“As several companies are interested in starting operations in the city, the district administration is chalking out plans to improve water supply and meet the growing needs,” said the Collector.
