MP inaugurates international connecting flight at Vizag Airport

Member of Parliament, Kambampati Haribabu has inaugurated a Jet Airways flight to Delhi at the Vizag Airport which would connect to 232 International destinations from the city. The boarding pass and baggage would be checked at Vizag itself for all these destinations. The immigration process would be carried out at the Delhi or Mumbai airport as the flight connects Mumbai to many International destinations.

The Jet Airways flight would fly from Vizag at 10:25 am and reach the commercial capital of India, Mumbai, at 12:15 pm. The flight would fly from there at 5:15 pm and reaches Vizag at 7:20 pm. It then departs from Vizag Airport at 8:30 pm and reaches Delhi at 10:50 pm. The next day morning, the flight will fly back from Delhi at 7:00 am and would reach Vizag at 9:20 am.

Though Andhra Pradesh stands at the top in ‘Ease of Doing Business’ beating all the other states in the country, the facility of cargo flights is still not approved at the Visakhapatnam Airport which is the largest airport in the state.

The airport handles 60% air traffic of that in AP and lack of cargo facility has become a problem for the exporters and the importers.

Reasons for cargo facility disapproval

• Unavailability of aircraft with wide-bodies.
• No high volume storage area.
• The absence of temperature control rooms for bulk cargo.
• lack of equipment to handle heavy cargo.
