Vizag’s lad develops an application to track the whereabouts of school bus

Safety of children is always the first concern of every parent. From the time the children leave to school until the time they return home, parents always ponder about their kids’ safety and especially when the children are traveling on school buses.

Adurthi Surya Chandra Pavan, an Intermediate student from Visakhapatnam,  has come up with a new user-friendly mobile application that tracks the real-time location of a school bus from the starting of its journey until it reaches the destination.

Mr.Pavan says that the app is cost-effective and also sends notifications to its users. ‘My Children Bus Tracker’ being the name of the application, holds three sub-applications namely ‘My Children bus tracker’ for parents, ‘My Children Bus Driver Console’ for bus drivers and ‘My children Bus Management’ for the school management. The app is really useful especially if the drivers want to send an alert to the school management or to the parents if there is any bus breakdown or an unfortunate accident.

Supported by his father A.Lakshmana Rao, an APEDDCL employee, Pavan says that it took him almost a month to develop the application. “There is no need to install any GPS device that costs approximately Rs 7000 to Rs 10000 per unit. Android users can download it from Google Play Store by following simple instructions”, the youngster told The Hindu.

Pavan has already demonstrated the use of the application to the Vice-President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, a couple of months ago and the Ministry of Student Resource Development directed the School Education Development to consider the newly developed app in schools.
