The local crowd at the ACA-VDCA stadium at PM Palem in Visakhapatnam were disappointed again as India lost to Australia in the match held on 12 October as a part of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Championship. Australia won the match by three wickets.

Close on the heels of its defeat in the hands of South Africa in the same grounds on 9 October, the Indian team, despite scoring a big total failed to stop the Australia run chase.

Asked to bat first after losing the toss, the Indian team was off to a bright start with openers Prathika and Smrithi Mandhana making 155 runs in their partnership. Amid expectations of a huge total, wickets fell in quick succession in the last overs and it was all out for 330 in 48.5 overs.

Chasing the target of 331 runs, Australia finished it in 48 overs with Healy playing the captain innings. She scored 142 in 107 balls putting the team in driver’s seat.

With this, India lost two out of four matches it played in the ICC Women’s World Cup tourney.
