The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), with its consistent revenue surplus, has found place in the top ten richest civic bodies.
Improving its financial strength through efficient tax collection and other ways, the GVMC has got recognition as the financially strong corporation joining the list of richest civic bodies. The highest budgetary allocation of Rs. 4,762 crore in the financial year 2025-26 has made it to stand alongside the other corporations like Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Aiming at more revenue collection and administrative convenience, the GVMC has revised the number of zonal offices increasing the number to ten.
India’s richest civic bodies are BMC (Mumbai), BBMP (Bengaluru), MCD (Delhi), AMC (Ahmedabad), PMC (Pune), GHMC (Hyderabad), SMC (Surat), Greater Chennai Corporation, KMC (Kolkata) and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Visakhapatnam.
The list is based on budgetary allocation which reflects local revenue strength, not just on city size.
