On January 25, two individuals lost their lives to a road accident in Vizianagaram, after an APSRTC bus collided with their bike from behind.
The two deceased men, P Ramanaidu, 33, and M Ellayya, 48, were heading to Vizianagaram town from Porali village in Dattirajeru on a bike. The bike rider was wearing a helmet, but the pillion rider was not. Both lost their lives on the spot.
The site of the accident was inspected by Superintendent of Police A R Damodar, who noted that the rider was wearing a helmet during the time of the crash, but that the helmet was not Bureau of Indian Standards approved. He stated that the poor-quality helmet didn’t prevent the death of the rider, but rather contributed to it.
The police have stated that an investigation is underway, and if any negligence on the part of the bus driver is established, a case will be filed against him. They further noted that in this month alone, 6 motorists have lost their lives following collisions with APSRTC buses.4
