State Minister K Atchannaidu has said the government initiated measures to free the eight fishermen who are in the custody of the Bangladesh Navy.
The fishermen, who hail from Vizianagaram district, went into the sea for fishing from the Visakhapatnam Harbour area on 13 October. The fishermen were taken into custody by the Bangladesh coast guard on the charge of entering the Bangla waters.
Following a representation by the State government, the central officials initiated talks with the Bangladesh government, said the Minister.
He assured the family members of the fishermen of bringing them back to the country.
