Visakhapatnam District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad has advised the people to cancel their travel plans on 27, 28 and 29 October as extremely heavy rains have been forecast under the influence Montha cyclone.
In a statement issued on 26 October, the Collector advised the people not to come out unless in case of an emergency. People should avoid taking shelter under trees and hoardings when it rains accompanied by gales.
Similarly, fishermen should not venture into the sea, and those who set out should return immediately.
He exhorted farmers to take precautions as suggested by the agriculture officials to save their crops.
People living in the low-lying areas should shift to safer places, said the Collector. As the sea would be rough due to Cyclone Montha, no one should go to the beaches to take a bath.
The Collector further said that the weekly programme — public grievances redressal system (PFRS) — scheduled for Monday (27 October) was cancelled.
Control rooms were set up at the Collectorate and the public can contact them for any information over phone (0891-2590102 and 0891-2590100).
