Ram Gopal Varma
The case against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) seems to be heating up with each passing day. On Wednesday, members of women rights organization in Vizag began a three-day fast, seeking the arrest of the director.
Social activist Devi, who led the protest near the GVMC office, said, “He claims that indecent exposure of women is modernity and calls for free sex for women for which he should be immediately arrested.”
Devi also said that she wondered why the government of Andhra Pradesh is not taking any action against RGV, given the “objectionable” remarks he had made against women.
“The Telangana government has not only booked cases under IT Act against the director’s film God Sex Truth (GST), but also booked cases under IPC Sections 508 and 509. But the Vizag police is yet to react.” Ms. Lakshmi of Progressive Organisation of Women was quoted as saying earlier.
Director Ram Gopal Varma has been making news ever since he announced his ‘God, Sex, and Truth’. Several groups of women activists have claimed that the film consists of “offending” and “derogatory” content and hurts the sentiments of women. They also feared that such films could lead the country’s youth on the wrong path.
Last month, women associations in Vizag had burnt RGV’s effigy as a protest against his ‘God, Sex and Truth’.
