Forty passengers traveling in a private bus had a close escape when it met with an accident around 4:15 am in the morning near NAD Junction, Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. The bus was traveling from Vijayawada to Rajam and reportedly all the passengers were from Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Rajam areas. It has been learned that the mishap occurred when all the passengers were asleep when the bus got hit by a lorry from behind. The collision caused the bus to tip over and skid for several metres before it came to a halt.
26 passengers were injured and they have been admitted to the Kings George Hospital in the city. Out of the 26 injured, 3 passengers, R Kantham (40), K Sarojini (55), and A Gowtham Kumar (29), who were critically injured, were immediately taken to the critical care unit in KGH.
The local police and patrolling team were quick in rescuing all the passengers from the emergency window.
According to the on-duty police, the accident happened due to the carelessness of the lorry driver. The lorry driver has also been reported to have been involved in an accident last year, which ended up taking the life of a person.
Mr. Seshu, the Airport Police station Inspector mentioned, a case has also been filed against the lorry driver and action will be taken against him.
