The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) registered the highest-ever cargo throughput of 91.17 million metric tonnes in the financial year 2025-26, setting a new record in its 92-year history, according to its Chairman M. Angamuthu.
Building on this achievement, the port now targets to cross the 100 MMT mark in the financial year 2026-27, Angamuthu told the media in Vizag on April 2.
To move toward this goal, the VPA chief emphasised, “We are focusing on heavy mechanisation and modernisation.”
Regarding fuel supply, he stated that it was smooth in Visakhapatnam, despite restrictions at Hormuz. Over one lakh metric tonnes of gas were handled through four LPG ships at the port, he said, adding that three more ships would arrive soon.
With regard to petroleum products, the VPA chief said over 1.25 MMT were handled at the port, and five more ships would come in the next couple of days.
