The recently announced Light Metro Rail Project to Vizag has been receiving a mixed response from the citizens. While some feel it is a welcome move for the city, others feel there remain multiple issues that still remain unanswered and require to be addressed first. On the other hand, the Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) too is keen on exectuing the project with precision and is seeking technical assistance for various experts, it has been reported.
As per a senior official, the developer for the project would be chosen among the five firms who had already submitted their bids for the Request for Qualification (RfQ).
It has been reported that Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) will be bearing 50% of the project cost while the remaining will be contributed by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and under the PPP partnership model.
Reportedly, the AMRC is chalking out plans to ensure that the losses in the initial stages of the project are minimal, and would benefit both the project and stake holders.
Three routes have been identified in Vizag to operate the light metro rail here. While the first route is expected to be from Gajuwaka to Kommadi, the remaining two metro lines would be constructed along the routes of Gurudwara-Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem-Chinna Waltair respectively.
It has also been informed that the coaches would be designed to accommodate around 200 passengers. The project is expected to be completed in the coming five years, it has been reported.
