On the night of December 15, the Vizag beach shocked its onlookers after the water rippled a deep red.
A video, posted on social media, is circulating on the internet, showing the Vizag beach waters with ripples in red and a red glow.
The video shows onlookers scurrying away from the red waters and watching in awe from a distance. Social media users initiated a discussion in the comment section, comparing the scene to the movie Devara.
Heads of Andhra University Marine Living Resources explained that this phenomenon occurs due to red algae that comes onto the surface of the sea. The colour of the algae depends on the sea nutrients, water currents, and the calm nature of the sea. The main reason for the colouration is the microscopic nature of the plankton of the ocean currents. This phenomenon is not harmful and poses no threat, even if it comes into direct contact.
In 2023, Vizag Bach experienced the beautiful phenomenon of bioluminescence.
