Digital Transformation is here and here is what Visakhapatnam can expect

Digital Transformation is here and it is touching Visakhapatnam in a big way. Government services are going the digital transformation route and from how you ride your bus to the water you use to brush your teeth is all included. The Vizag Digital Dhan Sankalp (VDDS) project has been inked between Visa and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd (EPDCL) have made the digital transition.

So why the Digital Transformation?

Every major change looks us in the face for a why and we question the advantages and disadvantages of it. Here is looking at why we should welcome it.

  • Streamlines service delivery.
  • Efficiency accruing from digitization.
  • New ‘contactless cards’ for the people of AP to pay for transport or tourism digitally using technology such as Visa payWave cards.
  • Costs to be significantly reduced.
  • Better transparency in government operations.
  • Entire gamut of service deliveries to be covered.

From now on there is a shift towards amending AP Shops and Establishment Act that will cover vendors on the streets to educational infrastructure and all the small and micro businesses along the way. Visakhapatnam can get ready for the big digital transformation. After all as per IT Minister Nara Lokesh, the vision for Visakhapatnam is India’s first less–cash city and the FinTech Valley of India.

The Vizag Digital Dhan Sankalp project is an initiative spearheaded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Visa, to develop Visakhapatnam into India’s first “less–cash” city. As per Economic Times, active participation by various banking and technology partners including Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Billdesk and Verifone.
