Customs officials detained three smugglers at the Visakhapatnam airport on Saturday night. The three individuals, who arrived at the city’s airport from Kuala Lumpur via an Air Asia flight on 27 October night, were found guilty of smuggling 80 grams of gold worth Rs 2.33 lakhs.
Reportedly, the officials noticed the smugglers walking in a suspicious manner, which called for a detailed interrogation. The accused, identified as Jahabar Sadiq Azharuddeen (34), Jahabar Sadiq Sheikh Abdullah (24) and Nayeem Mohammed Sayyad (27), belonged to Tamil Nadu and were trying to smuggle the gold to Chennai.
Later, the smugglers were sent to KGH hospital in Visakhapatnam to extract the gold from their bodies. As per The New Indian Express, the doctors examined the trio and admitted them to the special ward for men. They were then made to consume bananas, hot water and other laxatives to extract gold out from their stomach in a natural way.
Previously, a similar incident was reported when another man was detained by the customs officials at the Visakhapatnam airport, for trying to smuggle gold biscuits by swallowing them. The accused, who had attempted to smuggle close to 800 grams of the valuable by carrying them in his rectum, was also admitted to KGH for the extraction process.
