Tamil actor Suriya is on a roll and his love saga with IMDb continues. After the huge success of Soorarai Pottru, yet another Suriya movie has achieved the highest rating on IMDb. Released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video, Jai Bhim has been causing all kinds of waves and has been the movie to watch this month. It’s no surprise then that this court-drama has got the rating that it did.
With Suriya donning the black robes of a lawyer for this movie, it focusses on true events from the 1990s when a human rights lawyer Chandru fought the case of a tribal man. The movie also stars Lijo Mol Jose and Rajisha Vijayan in pivotal roles. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the movie currently holds a 9.6 rating on IMDb, making it the all-time highest rated movie on the website. The movie has gone past the likes of The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Godfather (1972) and Sardar Udham from earlier this year.
Through the course of the movie, various difficult subjects like caste discrimination and police brutality are explored. Jai Bhim does well to not shy from its message, going to some extremes in order to deliver it. While Suriya seems to be in top-notch form and delivers another evocative performance, the true star of the movie is Lijo Mol Jose who thrives as the tribal’s wife. TJ Gnanavel’s impeccable direction of this powerful story is also praiseworthy.
