To focus more on the health of the urban women, the government has come out with a new scheme — Sakhi Suraksha — as a part of the Arogya Andhra Pradesh initiative.
Under it, medical tests will be conducted for the members of Self-Help Groups aged above 35 years free of cost. The health initiative was launched in 77 municipalities in Andhra Pradesh on 9 October.
Speaking after launching the programme in Visakhapatnam, District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad said the programme was designed to help SHG women stay healthy.
“Sakhi Suraksha will serve as a protective health shield for the women,” he said.
The programme, which was held at AU Convention Hall, was attended by MEPMA Mission Director N Tej Bharat, GVMC UCD Project Director P M Satyavani, Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishnababu, and a team of doctors.
Members of SHG members can get medical tests done at the Sakhi Suraksha centres opened in the city. In case a treatment is required, such cases will be referred to hospitals.
Coverage under Ayushman Bharat health insurance will be provided up to Rs. 5 lakh.
Tej Bharat said Sakhi Suraksha supports both economic and health security for women.
Release of the Sakhi Suraksha poster and inspection of health screening centres marked the launch of the programme.
