Major fire accident at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, 2 lorries gutted
Panic ensued at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Saturday after a major fire accident took place at the Blast Furnace-2, during the early hours of the day. As per the reports, a hole formed in the blast furnace led to the fire accident at the steel plant.
Reportedly, on receiving information about the fire accident, firefighters rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. Two lorries were gutted in the fire accident. The initial estimated property damage is between Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 lakh.
During the fire accident at the Vizag Steel Plant, no staff were present at the incident, and hence no casualties have been reported.
It could be noted that a year ago, a fire accident took place at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, TPP-2, during the early hours of the day. The fire accident was caused due to a turbine oil leak at the plant. Reportedly, a 1.2 megawatts electric motor has been destroyed in the fire accident.
Notably, the blast furnace has caused fire accidents at the steel plant earlier also. In the past two years, two fire breakouts have been reported. Earlier, a fire broke out at Furnace-3 after a hot metal leaked out. The hot metal production was restored within 36 hours after the management completed the repair work.
