Naval Dockyard and INS Dega, in Visakhapatnam, awarded the Rajbhasha Trophies

The Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard has been awarded the Eastern Naval Command Rajbhasha Winners Trophy for the year 2020-2021. INS Dega, also of Visakhapatnam, has been awarded the Eastern Naval Command Rajbhasha Runners up Trophy. This trophy has been instituted to promote the use of the Hindi language in official work.

The trophies were presented during the Half-Yearly Command Staff Meeting held at the Visakhapatnam Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command (ENC), on 24 December 2021. Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, AVSM, YSM, VSM Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, presented both the aforementioned trophies.
The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) has been awarding these trophies annually to its units for doing maximum official work in Hindi, as per the directives issued by the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Earlier Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, was awarded the Poorvi Nausena Kaman Rajbhasha Trophy as the winner and INS Dega has been awarded as the runner-up for the year 2018-2019.

The Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard is one of the most important dockyards in India, after the Bombay Dockyard. It all started with the boat repair shop in the 1940s for the maintenance of the Royal Indian Naval Ships. Today, they provide technical support to the ships and submarines in the Eastern Naval Command.

The Indian Navy started its operations in Visakhapatnam in the late 1970s, with the construction of four helipads. The air station was then called Naval Air Station, Visakhapatnam and on 21 October 1991 formally commissioned as INS Dega by then-Vice Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas.
